About Us
For over four decades, Bright Art Gallery has provided a space where art lovers, creators and visitors can come together to experience a rich and varied program of exhibitions, workshops and cultural events.
A Gallery Powered by Community
With no paid staff, the gallery is managed by a dedicated committee of 15 volunteers, supported by our 300 strong membership. Half of our members are artists — collectively known as the Alpine Artists — and we’re also proud to include around 60 talented Youth Members. Every exhibition, event and initiative is made possible by this passionate and generous network of supporters.
A Year-Round Program of Art & Inspiration
Our gallery features two spacious exhibition halls, an upstairs gallery, a welcoming foyer with a gift shop, and a dedicated workshop area — all designed to inspire creativity and connection.
We host four major exhibition seasons each year, including:
- Autumn Art Exhibition – Our flagship event since 1962, (well before the gallery came to be) featuring top artists from across Australia and offering a prestigious $5,000 acquisitive prize with nearly $10,000 in other awards.
- Winter Exhibitions – Including solo shows, Alpine Artists showcases, and selections from our extensive Permanent Collection.
- Spring Exhibitions – group and solo exhibitions, occasionally displaying works from private collections in the region.
- Summer ART Awards Exhibition – A celebration of Alpine Artists and Youth Members, with prizes across diverse media including painting, photography, ceramics, sculpture, and two youth prizes.
We also proudly host the Bright P-12 College Students Exhibition each November, showcasing the creativity of our local youth in partnership with their teachers.
More Than Just Exhibitions
The Bright Art Gallery & Cultural Centre is also home to regular musical performances, weekly choir practices by the Bright Singers, and ongoing art workshops for all skill levels. From casual Tuesday morning sessions to special one-off classes, there’s often something happening at the gallery.
Sustained by Generosity and Dedication
Every dollar raised through exhibitions, donations, and events is reinvested into the gallery. Thanks to community support, we continue to improve our facilities — from upgraded lighting and modern hanging systems to our treasured grand piano, all made possible by people who believe in our mission.
