Bright Art Gallery History

Gallery changes over time
1962
Annual Art Exhibition Commenced
An annual Art Competition commenced using various venues in Bright. The ultimate aim of the organising committee was to establish a community Art Gallery.
1982
Property Acquired
After much fundraising, and with the help of the then Shire of Bright, Bright Art Gallery came into being when a former gemstone museum in Mountbatten Ave was purchased in December.
1983
First Autumn Art Exhibition
For the first time the Autumn Art Exhibition was held in the current gallery location.
1994
Building Expansion
The gallery was extended, again after community fund-raising, and the new wing officially opened at the Autumn Art Exhibition.
2012
Further Redevelopment of Gallery Building
With assistance from The Alpine Shire, together with fundraising and bequests, the gallery raised enough money to qualify for a Victorian Government grant to renovate and extend the building. This resulted in improved facilities for exhibitions and functions. Provision was also made for facilities for disabled and elderly visitors.
