Tom Lawler of ‘The Buckland Screens’ fame is having his second solo exhibition at the Bright Art Gallery. An impressive variety of works will be on display throughout the gallery.
Tom’s Artist Statement:
As a narrative artist in a fragmented world that’s verbal in its constant change and movement, I’ve been accused of not having an identifiable style by a renowned art judge and critic.
In my practice technique is secondary to the creation of art. This is the driver to a surprise destination that’s unknown at the beginning….. but that execution must have a solid foundational technique.
Being an untrained and largely self-taught artist, I know I’ll always be learning how to arrive at a “nowness” dictated by the subject I’m focusing on.
In the creation of 90% of my paintings there is identifiable music (eclectic in style) listened to as background whilst making the work.
Since my accident earlier in 2025, I’ve acquired a curiosity to view life differently. The urgency of old age is a strong factor for looking back as well as forward.
This exhibition includes commissions, gifts, memorial works, paradoxical surprises and quirky ideas that took my fancy. These are roughly collated into related groupings for your viewing enjoyment.
